If you’ve been following along with our blog, you may have noticed a bit of a theme when it comes to our subject matter. We talk a lot about change. In the last month, we’ve explored how we perceive ourselves and our businesses, the boundaries we set, and the permissions we give ourselves. All of those topics have had something to do with changing habits, perceptions, or comfort levels.
One of the hard choices that comes along with change is letting go of the things that have served us well in the past. Living the life of an entrepreneur means pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones. It’s scary, no doubt, but it’s something we have to do to avoid stagnation.
Earlier this year, we posted a piece called Grief & Growing. So, let’s go a little deeper on that topic today. Each time you decide to make a change, it’s never easy, but you can get to a place where you become more comfortable with the process. Boosting your resilience by building your knowledge and emotional elasticity will give you a solid foundation for your growth journey.
Here comes the part that may be frightening: You need to say goodbye to the old version of yourself.
You don’t need to chuck the old you out the window and never think about them again. The old version of yourself got you here, and that’s important. Be grateful and take time to look back and appreciate the obstacles you overcame. Damn fine work was done – exhausting physical labor, emotional turmoil, long hours, and likely many tears. Thank that part of you for putting in the work and fighting all those battles. Now, it’s time to grow again.
There’s likely a part of you aware that the old you (and your old support systems) may not get you where you want to go. However, you may hold on to them as an anchor of comfort while you go through the pain of growing. But that can only go on for so long. Soon, trying to fit your old self into your new life will cause even more discomfort. Acknowledge that it’s time to let go and continue your journey. Think of how far you can go with all the knowledge, experience, resiliency, and confidence you have now. You’ve got this. Your future self will be proud.
Ready to begin taking the next step in your business journey? Let’s set up a time to talk.
